The Presbyterian University of East Africa (PUEA) is a private Christian university located in Kikuyu, Kenya. It was founded in 2007 by the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), one of the largest and oldest churches in Kenya.
The idea of establishing a university was first proposed by the PCEA in the early 1990s, and the church began raising funds and seeking support from other churches and organizations. In 2004, the church received a charter from the government of Kenya to establish a university, and the Presbyterian University of East Africa was officially launched in 2007.
Since its founding, the PUEA has grown rapidly, expanding its academic programs, facilities, and student enrollment. Today, the university offers undergraduate and graduate programs in a wide range of fields, including business, education, theology, and social sciences.
In addition to its academic programs, the PUEA is also committed to serving its community through various outreach initiatives. These include providing healthcare services to underserved populations, offering vocational training programs, and supporting local churches and schools.
The PUEA is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church of East Africa, which has a long history of promoting education and social justice in Kenya. The church was founded in 1891 by Scottish missionaries, and has since grown to become one of the largest Protestant denominations in Kenya, with over 4 million members.
Today, the Presbyterian University of East Africa continues to be a vital institution of higher education and a beacon of Christian faith in Kenya and beyond.
