Prof. Wangari Mwai

Prof. Wangari Mwai is a renowned scholar locally, regionally and globally. For more than thirty years, she has taught Literature and Kiswahili at Maseno and Kenyatta Universities respectively. She has also served as an External Examiner in various university specializing in Literature, Languages, Communication and Gender.
As a researcher, Prof. Mwai has led diverse teams in proposal writing, data collection and dissemination of research findings through performing arts, workshops, seminars and academic publications. She is a certified Trainer of Trainers. Additionally, she has a knack for putting teams together for training and/ or research engagements.
As an Academic and Administrative leader, Prof. Mwai holds a Ph.D in Literature (Swahili Women’s poetry), A Master of Arts in Literature (Kiswahili poetry), a Bachelor of Education degree (Literature and Kiswahili) and an Executive Masters in Business administration (EMBA-Business and Leadership), all from renowned universities in Kenya. She has supervised and mentored many. Previously, Mwai was Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Administration at Kenyatta University for two (2years). Most recently she has been serving as the Associate Deputy
Vice Chancellor in charge of Student Affairs at the United States International University (USIU-AFRICA), and also the chair of the technical committee of the African Centre for Transformative and Inclusive Leadership (ACTIL), which is a UN WOMEN sponsored centre for leadership training for women and youth, hosted by Kenyatta University. The professor has been a Board Member of the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI- EA). Before assuming the office of the Vice Chancellor at PUEA, Prof. Mwai worked as the Director for Training, Research and Innovations at the Kenyatta University, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).
Prof. Wangari Mwai is a tried and tested community leader who leads teams in community engagement in projects and ensures community capacity building and empowerment towards meaningful participation.
